SOT #1 11:47:39 NOW YOU'VE BEEN HERE FOR 10 YEARS SO YOU'VE SEEN SOME UPS AND DOWNS, HOW WOULD YOU RATE THIS YEAR? 11:47:43 WELL THIS YEAR I HAVE TO SAY THAT WE'VE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO KEEP THE BOAT YARD FULL, EVERY SLIP IS FILLED AT THIS POINT AND WE'RE KEEPING THE SERVICE GOING AND PEOPLE GOING IN AND OUT. I WOULD SAY THE WEATHER WAS THE MAJOR FACTOR THIS YEAR MORE THAN THE ECONOMY TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, CUZ EVERY WEEKEND WE HAD NICE WEATHER IT WAS REAL REAL BUSY." SOT #2: LACONIA DISK: 14:20:27 I THINK IT'S HUGE, IT'S TRULY IF NOT THE NICEST ONE OF THE NICEST UNDEVELOPED TRACKS OF LAND IN THE CITY, IT'S OVER 200 ACRES. IT'S NEXT TO THE AHERN STATE PARK WHICH IS AGAIN ON THE SHORES OF LAKE WINNISQUAM. PEOPLE REALLY OBJECTED IN LACONIA WHEN IT WAS A PRISON BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT THE PROPERTY IS AND SHOULDN'T BE USED FOR THAT PURPOSE. HERE IN THE MILL'S KNITTING ROOM, WE ARE SURROUNDED BY REMINDERS OF THE MANUFACTURING ECONOMY THAT ONCE DOMINATED THIS REGION. JOINING US TO TALK ABOUT OUR CURRENT ECONOMY - AND OTHER ISSUES: RUSS THIBEAULT, ECONOMIST AND PRESIDENT OF APPLIED ECONOMIC RESEARCH IN LACONIA; TOM CALDWELL, NEWS EDITOR OF THE LACONIA CITIZEN; AND JOHN NOLAN, EDITOR OF THE ROCHESTER TIMES - ROCHESTER, I SHOULD REMIND OUR VIEWERS - IS DEFINED BY THE STATE AS PART OF THE LAKES REGION. And finally the New Hampshire Public Television family has lost a member. Carl Merk, long-time engineer who brought his talents to so many of our productions, died at the age of 44. He was a highly-regarded professional and worked the Red Sox World Series victory in 2004. We mourn his loss and extend our condolences to his family. That is all the time we have today for this edition for NH Outlook. I'm Richard Ager. I'll see you next time. |
